From the Back Cover

Not all healing is gentle. Some truths arrive like fire. This collection journeys through the shadowed terrain of identity, grief, spiritual tension, ego, and inner awakening. Written with raw honesty and lyrical force, these poems speak to the ones who have wrestled with darkness, questioned everything, and still found themselves reaching for light.

For the seeker, the outsider, the bruised soul, the watcher,
the believer, the skeptic.
This is poetry for those learning how to survive themselves.

Poem I
The Mirror Doesn't Lie
You wanted the version of yourself that never bled in public, that smiled through sermons and swallowed every scream. But the mirror doesn't lie. It shows the fracture where the light gets in — and the darkness gets out. You are not broken. You are being remade by everything you survived.

Poem II
Blood of the Beautiful Stupid
We built temples out of ego and called it ambition. We burned every bridge with a grin and called it independence. The blood of the beautiful stupid runs through every one of us — the ones who loved too hard, who believed too easily, who gave ourselves away before we knew our own name.

Les Smith • Vincennes, Indiana

Active duty US Navy. VFA-115 Eagles. F/A-18E Super Hornets. Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom. He stopped counting ordinance somewhere past 500,000 pounds.

Then twenty years in the dark. Not curiosity — a fully inhabited life on the other side of the light. The tattoos on his body are the evidence: a pentagram back piece, a Baphomet arm piece, a Celtic cross with numerology running down his leg.

Then Matthew 7:7. Ask, and it shall be given you. He asked inward. He found something he didn't expect. He does not fear now.

"Now my scars are my sermon, my blood is my hymn. I don't whisper my faith, I shout it to them. Cerberus walks with me, hell's gates obey, Christ holds the leash, the beast bows, and we pray."
